Italian night

Gabriel

I made pizza from scratch for the first time, and it wasn’t half bad. Half the battle is the home made crust, the other is high quality ingredients.

The pineapple must be cooked with a healing tablespoon of demerara sugar. This transforms the pineapple into little land mines of flavor on the pizza.

I didn’t take a picture of the salads I had with the pizza, but it all ended with tiramisu.

Castagna

Uncategorized

Last Saturday night, we treated ourselves to Castagna, which had a lot of great reviews.  I was excited that there were many vegetarian, gluten free options.  We were both happily surprised and disappointed.  Most of the plant dishes were a hit but we did notice they roasted/grilled (aka burned) the crap out of the plants.  The tomatoes and peaches were particularly enjoyable.  However, the pizza was one of the worst pizzas I’ve ever had. It was like bad Chinese food–dry, oily, bland, burned.

Espresso tonics

Uncategorized

Available in Japan for years, the espresso tonic has started appearing at hip coffee shops in the US.  unfortunately I have yet to find a coffee shop that is in the know.  I’ve been to a dozen cafes to ask, including intelligentsia and stumptown (though, stumptown had at least heard of it… That’s a start). I just HAD to try it, so I collaborated with friends who had an espresso machine… The results? Derricious!

Start with an ice cold glass and cold tonic water. We used fever tree. Pour in 2 shots of espresso slowly so as not to foam the drink too much.
